Monserrat joined Architype’s Edinburgh studio as a Part 1 architectural assistant in 2022.

Since joining Architype, Monserrat has assisted in RIBA stage 3 spatial coordination of the Passivhaus Newcraighall Primary School. Monserrat is particularly interested in the EnerPhit Standard that encourages adaptability and material reuse of existing buildings. She is drawn to architecture that implements low impact materials whilst enhancing biodiversity, with the aim to create a positive impact on health and wellbeing.

Monserrat's enthusiasm in architecture was prompted by studying visual arts and design technology as her higher-level subjects for the International Baccalaureate. She discovered her creative abilities from an early stage and has since enjoyed working with analogue techniques such photography and cyanotypes.

Education

Monserrat completed her Part 1 at Newcastle University, graduating in July 2022. Her final design project focused on refurbishing a listed building in Jesmond Dene. She designed creative studio spaces for painters that aimed to adapt and reuse the existing structure while intending to embrace the ruins of the existing building.
